The Eye to Eye project and exhibition started in 2015. Each year artists with and without disabilities are paired together to create collaborative artwork and community connections. Artists apply to be a part of the project and indicate how they would like to participate: as a mentor, as a mentee, or as part of a 50/50 collaboration. With the help of sponsors and grant funding, Fresh Eye provides materials, supplies, space, and stipends for each artist.
This year the theme is REMAKE. Artists were encouraged to incorporate upcycled or found materials into works of art. Collaboration encourages experimentation, growth, and can facilitate meaningful connections for the artists involved. Creating a collaborative art piece takes patience, respect, teamwork, and helps to build community. It challenges the idea of working in isolation and encourages exploring interconnectedness as part of one’s art practice.
Eye to Eye is founded on the principles of radical inclusivity.
