As we enter the second decade of Fresh Eye’s annual collaborative art show, we’re excited to explore a relatively new field in contemporary art: installation! The Tate Museum defines installation art as “large-scale, mixed-media constructions, often designed for a specific place...” Large sculpture, projections, sound design, and many other mediums can be considered installation art. This medium is subjective, flexible, and open to many interpretations. For Eye to Eye 2025, we are seeking installation proposals with a strong artistic voice and feasible timeline which invite collaboration from other artists.
The application process for Eye to Eye 2025 looks a little different than other Fresh Eye calls for art: in addition to art samples, we are calling for proposals for specific installation art projects that will be exhibited at Fresh Eye Gallery for the duration of the show.
Submitted art samples will primarily be used to give a sense of an artist’s creative voice and ability to follow through on artistic projects. We will accept a limited number of proposals based on their strength and feasibility, then assign teams of 3-4 artists to work together to fabricate the installation. The author of the accepted proposal will be “team leader”, but collaboration is expected from all teams. Each team will include at least one artist represented by Fresh Eye Arts, a progressive art studio supporting artists with disabilities. All selected artists (including project authors and fabricators) will receive an honorarium for participating in the show.
We are accepting proposals for installation projects and fabrication team members: you do not need to submit a project proposal to be considered as a fabrication team member. If you are only interested in fabrication, please note that in the designated areas in the application.
Teams will be created based on the skills needed to create each project, and compatible scheduling availability.
All mediums of installation art will be considered, but proposals with 3D, interactive, and/or time-based elements are preferred.
If you would like more information about applying to Eye to Eye 2025, there will be a public info session over Zoom on Thursday, March 6 from 5:30-6:00pm with Eye to Eye 2025 coordinator, AJ Jarvi-Beamer.
Due to the involved nature of this call for art, there is no application fee.
