Lynda Mullan (Revolutionary)
Tell us more about yourself. What has your journey been like as an artist?
My journey has been good working at Fresh Eye with Max, my cat. I make stuff out of black fabric and draw on canvas with paint markers. I want to try making comics sometime.
Please tell us about the artwork you are showing in Revolutionary: The Feminine Perspective Beyond 50.
I am showing a large drawing on canvas and Max’s chair. My cat inspires me. I like using markers to make colorful work. They make me and other people happy.
How is it different working on 3D objects like chairs, frames and bird houses vs wood panel and canvas? Does it change your approach to painting?
I like doing it. It doesn’t change how I work. I want to work on more furniture.
We are really excited about this exhibition. It's amazing to bring so many great women and femme artists together. How does it feel to be included in the show?
I like it. I am showing with my friends and Max. I would do it again!
Are you working on anything new that you would like to share with us? What’s next?
I am working on more big canvas projects. I also started weaving. I work with Nina Robinson whenever she comes to visit me at my Fresh Eye studio. I like to work with Max too.
Lynda Mullan makes intricate color-scapes that are an extension of her personality: bright, forthcoming, and extroverted. Mullan’s paintings grab the viewers’ attention with color, and maintain it through compositional puzzles. Her work is built like a labyrinth: shapes structured from a non-linear grid that becomes more and more detailed as she draws it. Mullan often opts to work on canvas and wood, usually outlining a pattern with pencil and then coloring it in with acrylic markers. Lately, she has been inspired by her cat Max and working on furniture.
